How often should I change my coil?Updated a month ago

WHEN TO CHANCE YOUR VAPE COIL?

depends on several factors. However, here's a breakdown to help you figure out the best schedule for you:

General Guidelines:

  • Heavy Vapers: If you vape frequently throughout the day, you might need to change your coil every few days to 1 week.
  • Moderate Vapers: If you vape regularly but not constantly, a coil might last you 1 to 2 weeks.
  • Light Vapers: If you only vape occasionally, your coil could last 2 to 4 weeks, or even longer.

KEY FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE COIL LIFESPAN:

  1. Frequency of Use: The more you vape, the faster your coil will degrade.
  2. Type of E-Liquid:
    • Sweet E-Liquids: E-liquids with a lot of sweetener (especially sucralose) are notorious for "gunking up" coils quickly. The sweetener caramelizes on the coil, leading to a burnt taste and reduced performance.
    • High VG E-Liquids: Thicker, high Vegetable Glycerin (VG) e-liquids can sometimes shorten the life of certain types of coils, especially smaller ones not designed for thick juice, as they may struggle to wick efficiently.
    • Dark E-Liquids: Darker colored e-liquids can also sometimes contribute to faster coil degradation.
  3. Power Settings (Wattage/Voltage):
    • Vaping at very high wattages or voltages consistently can put more stress on the coil and cause it to burn out faster. It's best to stay within the recommended wattage range for your specific coil.
  4. Length of Puffs: Longer, more sustained puffs heat the coil for extended periods, which can contribute to faster wear.
  5. Coil Priming: This is crucial! When you install a New Replacement coils, you must prime it properly by saturating the wicking material with e-liquid and letting it sit for 5-10 minutes before vaping. If you don't prime it, you'll likely burn the cotton immediately, ruining the coil.

Signs It's Time to Change Your Coil:

  • Burnt Taste: This is the most common and obvious indicator. If your vape tastes burnt, acrid, or like burnt, it's definitely time for a new coil.
  • Muted or "Off" Flavor: If your e-liquid starts tasting dull, less flavorful, or different from how it usually tastes, your coil is likely past its prime.
  • Reduced Vapor Production: If you notice a significant decrease in the amount of vapor your device is producing, the coil might be clogged or worn out.
  • Gurgling Sounds or Leaking: While these issues can sometimes be due to other factors (like overfilling), a failing coil that isn't vaporizing e-liquid efficiently can lead to gurgling or leaking.
  • Visual Inspection (if possible): If you can see your coil, you might notice the wicking material looks dark brown or black, or there's visible gunk buildup on the wire.

To Maximize Coil Life:

  • Prime your coils properly.
  • Use e-liquids with less sweetener if you want your coils to last longer.
  • Stay within the recommended wattage range for your coil.
  • Don't let your tank/pod run completely empty, as this can lead to dry hits which burn the coil.
  • Consider cleaning your tank when you change your coil to remove any old e-liquid residue.

Ultimately, paying attention to the taste of your ejuice and performance of your vape device is the best way to know when it's time for a fresh coil. Happy vaping!
